| GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE COMPANY'S ACTIVITIES AND IMPACT |
| Grow Social Capital is a social enterprise working to address the challenge of changing levels of Social Capital in society. |
| These changes are at the root cause of many social issues and challenges including growing divisions and distrust, fewer people getting involved in civic society, and more feeling more isolated. Our collective ability to help each other is called Social Capital. |
| We have developed new techniques and methods for enabling organisations, communities and individuals to do something practical and positive to grow social capital. |
| We haver worked with communities of place and interest in Cardiff, East London and Essex, Leicester, south Wales valleys and Monmouthshire. |
| CONSULTATION WITH STAKEHOLDERS |
| All our projects are co-produced and/or stakeholder tested before going 'live'. |
| Our principal project in the reporting period was the working with the former steelworks community of Splott in Cardiff to tell its Story in 50 Objects via a pocket museum. Spending five months in the community with various community organisations we collated a long list of over 100 objects - landmarks, famous sons and daughters, sports clubs, colloquialisms etc. - that the community whittled down to 50. The deliberative process involving the sharing of stories, memories and anecdotes through which so people can realise they have much in common. |
| The pocket museum has now been shared with a range of communities across the UK in the hope that they can benefit from the project in the same way Splott and Modern Cockney have. |
| We are continuing to work with small enterprises in East London about securing Protected Food Status for the quintessential Cockney dish of pie n mash in order to highlight its cultural significance. |
| Research with communities in Tower Hamlets continues in relation to the use of Cockney language. |
| Working in Monmouthshire with its community sector to enhance community action. Off the back of this we were commissioned to undertake an evaluation into a pioneering project to build understanding of poverty within the county's foundational economy, across all sectors (voluntary, private and public). The principal method used was Most Significant Change an inherently participative and democratic method out of which emerged several co-produced collaborative research questions, some of which were taken forward in the subsequent reporting period. |
